CTRC recycles household electronics and gives away free refurbished computers to those in need to help narrow the digital divide. Since 1994, CTRC has given away thousands of computers to schools, non-profit organizations and economically and/or physically disadvantaged individuals. Discarded electronics are reclaimed and refurbished in the training program where volunteers learn to restore computers.
Note that CTRC was fouded as and formerly known as Alameda County Computer Resource Center. Also, the HQ for this organization is in Marin County, with Berkeley as a branch location.
