Because the zone is located near large population centers, most feedstock is delivered by truck. For long-haul transportation of products and feedstock, the Port of Oakland is available. Southern Pacific Railroad has rail access running north-south through the zone, and passenger service is available from the Bay Area Rapid Transit System (BART). Highway transportation is available on Interstates 680 and 880, which run along the east bay into Oakland, and State Highway 84, which runs westward across the bay, providing access to San Francisco. As of 2005, a transfer station/materials recovery facility will be in operation in the zone providing ready access to a variety of recycled feedstocks.
