December 12-13, 2017 CalEPA Tribal Advisory Committee Meeting
The California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA) Tribal Advisory Committee (TAC) will conduct a meeting on December 12-13, 2017 at the CalEPA Headquarters Building, at 1001 I Street, in Sacramento, California. At the meeting, the CalEPA TAC will meet with the CalEPA Agency Secretary and the Directors and Executive Officers of the CalEPA Boards, Departments, and Office (BDOs), to discuss and share advice on the implementation of CalEPA’s Tribal Policy, and to hear presentations from the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment and the State Waterboards on activities of interest to, or affecting, California’s tribal governments and communities. The TAC meeting will also include a panel discussion regarding emergency management activities. The meeting agenda is available on the CalEPA website.
Background
CalEPA and its boards, departments, and office (BDOs) are committed to improving our communication and working relationships with California Native American Tribes. CalEPA first adopted a Tribal Policy in 2009 to achieve this goal and to help guide CalEPA and its BDOs. In August 2015, Secretary Matthew Rodriquez updated and adopted CalEPA’s Tribal Policy – Policy on Consultation with California Native American Tribes (.pdf) to improve and strengthen its policy for working with Tribal governments. This Tribal Policy serves to guide CalEPA and its BDOs in their daily operations to work with California Native American Tribes in a knowledgeable, sensitive, and respectful manner.
CalEPA implements its Tribal Policy with the assistance of our Tribal Advisory Committee (TAC), and the input of interested Tribal governments, communities, and stakeholders. The CalEPA TAC was established in 2010 to discuss environmental issues and projects involving California Native American Tribes.
