US (federal) EPA Now Accepting Applications for Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement

Funding Available to Non-profit Organizations and Tribal Governments and Organizations To Support Communities

This email is in regards to an opportunity provided by the US (federal) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and not the California (state) EPA funding opportunity.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Environmental Justice is accepting applications for its Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program. During this funding cycle, $1.2 million will be available to eligible community-based 501(c)(3) Internal Revenue Service tax designated nonprofit groups and federally recognized tribal governments and tribal organizations to support environmental justice-related projects across the nation. Ten projects are expected to be awarded in total, one project awarded per US EPA region. California is in US EPA's Region 9. The projects are awarded on a competitive basis. The maximum grant amount is $120,000, and the grant term is expected to start September 1, 2018.

For the 2018 cycle, US EPA' EJCPS Program will give special consideration to high ranking proposals to be performed in rural areas as defined by the program. Rural areas, for the purposes of this competition, are defined as local areas with populations of 50,000 or less that have limited access to public or private resources commonly found in metropolitan areas.  Applicants claiming rural status must provide sufficient detail (census data, population figures, descriptions of local resources, etc.) for US EPA to validate the rural status of the under-served community.

Additionally, US EPA will give special consideration to high ranking proposals submitted by eligible organizations that have not previously received an EJCPS award.

Applications must be received by 11:59 pm, Eastern standard time (8:59 pm, Pacific standard time) on Friday, February 16, 2018. CalEPA plans to announce the grant awards by August 2018.

The Request for Proposals (application) package is attached.

Questions regarding this opportunity and email should be directed to Fatima Ty, in Region 9, at Ty.Fatima@epa.gov or (415) 972-3550.
