Last IDTAC Nov 1 Meeting Recap
Detailed meeting notes(pdf) available. Highlights:
- National Cleanup Day Co-Founders present their history, work, partners/collaboration (global scale), resources, key cleanup events, a global cleanup map to use, and participate in the data conversation. Successes with creating awareness, community pride, and that all our efforts around this work can be contagious. Discussion portion includes prevention, enforcement, education, and support efforts.
- Towing Regulatory Oversight Council (T-ROC) provides their experience on abandoned vehicles—difficulties, process, suggestions. Commencing with CTTA info/history as towers are generally the frontline industry for all automotive related problems, they share current issues around RVs/trailers—towing, storage, and end-of-life problems, including labor costs, hazardous material, and low-to-no cost recovery. Suggested solutions and resources discussed including legislation, lien sale scenarios, and circumstances such as halted service, unknowns equating to the inability to properly estimate bids and that certain facilities are ill-equipped.
- Additional community wellness perspective shared re RVs/trailers: inability for sanitation services to clean streets, impact to public health, safety, and the environment (influx storm drain contamination), personal property liabilities, and that minimal storage capacity options result in prolonged community complaint wait times.
- Background on US EPA/CalEPA MOU “Collaborative Efforts on Enforcement and Compliance Assurance in Overburdened Communities” shared with focus on the Environmental Justice Enforcement Action Plan - Enhanced, Sustained Community Engagement element. Working with existing community led forums on all types of environmental complaints. Recently, these Fresno and Kern Counties made illegal dumping their top environmental concern. Discussion around Supplemental Environmental Projects (SEP) and environmental justice efforts re existing/proposed facilities.
- Updates/conversation: Caltrans Clean CA, Mattress Recycling Council, IDTAC Subcommittees, CalRecycle Grants, and legislative matters.
