What We’re Working On
Camp Fire Debris Cleanup Running Ahead of Schedule
In a significant milestone in the recovery and rebuilding of the Town of Paradise and Butte County following last year’s devastating wildfire, the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services announced that CalRecycle-managed crews have completed the removal of more than 75 percent of the structural debris on the 10,732 properties participating in the state-managed cleanup program. See our news release for more information.
First-of-Its-Kind Roadway Project Utilizes 81,000 Recycled Tires
With the help of a CalRecycle grant, Santa Barbara County just completed a road stabilization project using 81,000 recycled tires. Tire-derived aggregate, made from 810 tons of California waste tires, was used to backfill a retaining wall to replace failed soil and provide lateral support to the reconstructed embankment. This is the first infrastructure project in California to use TDA material in this type of application. See our news release for more information.

Quick Features from our Blog
Reusables--It's Our Bag, Baby!
At CalRecycle, we really do practice what we preach. From food waste bins in our break rooms to zero-waste social events and produce crop swaps, we’re no strangers to living sustainably at work and at home! So it should come as no surprise that our social committee, with the help of our zero waste team, recently hosted a reusable bag DIY during the lunch hour for everyone in our headquarters building, not just CalRecyclers.
Camp Fire Cleanup: Safety First
The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery joined its state and local partners in California’s Consolidated Debris Removal Program to re-emphasize operational safety to crews involved in the Camp Fire cleanup effort in Butte County.
