Revised Solid Waste Facilities Permit

Newby Island Sanitary Landfill - City of San Jose

Preliminary review of the permit package indicates the following permit and operational/design changes:

  • An increase in maximum elevation from 150 feet mean sea level to 245 feet mean sea level.

  • An increase in design capacity from 50.8 million cubic yards to 57.5 million cubic yards.

  • A decrease in permitted disposal area from 308 acres to 298 acres.

  • An extension of the estimated closure date from 2025 to 2041.
