On January 26, 2026, The Drug Takeback Solutions Foundation (Foundation) submitted notification of its intent to terminate its stewardship plans for covered drugs and home-generated sharps waste. The effective date of termination is June 30, 2026.

There are currently, and will continue to be, two program operators through Foundation’s termination date (June 30, 2026). After June 30, 2026, based on information currently available to CalRecycle, only MED-Project will operate stewardship programs for covered drugs and home-generated sharps waste. 

Foundation must continue to operate its stewardship plans for covered drugs and home-generated sharps waste, in accordance with statute, regulations, and its approved plans, respectively, through its termination date.
