Description This case study supports the responsibilities of the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) under the California Air Resources Board Scoping Plan to address greenhouse gas emissions through an Extended Producer Responsibility approach. Specifically, this case study estimates the life-cycle greenhouse emissions associated with the production, transport, and disposal of carpets consumed by California residential and commercial buildings, and the potential for reducing these emissions through improvements to product design, manufacturing, and end-of-life product management. (The Carpet America Recovery Effort, Georgia Institute of Technology, and the University of California at Berkeley are further investigating greenhouse gas emissions from carpet.
