This 2002 case study describes how Folsom State Prison and the City of Folsom have diverted a significant amount of organic material from disposal to a composting facility owned and operated by the Prison Industry Authority (PIA). The program helps the prison save tipping fees and provides revenue to the city from the sale of wood chips and compost. (2014 update: This facility is now closed and is no longer selling wood chips or compost to the public.)
