Description This report was prepared under a contract from the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle). It addresses the need for playground surfacing products made from recycled tire rubber to comply with the new accessible route requirements issued by the U.S. Access Board/Department of Justice that became a Federal Standard on Sept. 15, 2010 and became enforceable on March 15, 2012 under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA). The report provides an overview of the new regulations along with recommendations for best management practices that allow playground surfaces made using recycled tire rubber to comply with the new standards. The standards are also required and enforceable under the California Building Code as of July 2013.
